How To: Jailbreak iOS 5 On iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS Using RedSn0w 0.9.9b7 [Mac/Windows]
Step 1) - Download RedSn0w 0.9.9b7 for both Windows and Mac OS X using the download mirrors below.

Step 2) - With the necessary files downloaded launch RedSn0w 0.9.9b7 and click the Jailbreak button.
Step 3) - Upon clicking the Jailbreak button you will come to a screen where you will need to put your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS into DFU mode.
Step 4) - To put your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS into DFU mode you will need to follow the instructions presented to you on-screen which are:
- Hold down Power (corner) button for 5 seconds.
- Without releasing the Power button, also hold down the Home (bottom center) button along with the Power button for 10 seconds.
- Without releasing the home button, stop holding down the power button for up to 15 seconds.
Step 6) - RedSn0w will now begin Jailbreaking your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS running iOS 5. DO NOT use your computer or use your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS during the Jailbreaking process. It is very important nothing interrupts RedSn0w’s Jailbreaking process. When RedSn0w is finished Jailbreaking your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS running iOS 5, your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS will restart and hang on the Apple boot logo. This is because when you Jailbreak iOS 5 it is a tethered Jailbreak.
Step 7) - Now that you have a tethered Jailbreak whenever your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS loses power it will be unable to properly boot (the endless boot loop). To fix the endless boot loop simply go back to step 2, click the Extras button and then click the “Just boot” option. You will now need to repeat step 3 and step 4 (putting your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS into DFU mode) to successfully fix the endless boot loop bug.
